Broadband Boom Fuels IPTV Growth
|
On-demand TV on the rise
Recent reports say that telecom service providers Verizon and AT&T are offering Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) services to subscribers in the US. And a website has predicted that compared to the present 3.3 million subscribers now, the US will have around 12.7 million IPTV users by 2012.
Interestingly, one will find that the recent move by Verizon and AT&T comes in the wake of a global rise in the number of IPTV subscriptions. Already the number of IPTV subscribers in the US has doubled between March 2007 and March 2008. A study conducted by Point Topic and sponsored by The Broadband Forum says that the rise has been continuing for the second consecutive year as the IPTV subscriptions had doubled in the 2006-07 fiscal too.
It may be worth mentioning here that the global rise in broadband subscriptions, which has already touched the 370 million mark, has essentially stimulated the IPTV growth. What is, however, significant is the fact that the service providers have not made the total number of IPTV subscribers in the US available for the public, but released a region-wise break-up of the broadband subscriber figures.

Where Did Mobile Telephones Come From?
|
Nowadays, everybody has a mobile phone. Whether they're on a contract or a pay as you go tariff, the mobile phone has become an essential item for several people. this article will look at the history of the mobile phone - & its future - in order to discover more about the now essential telecommunications device.
The mobile phone began life as the two-way radio, which was also known as mobile rigs. these were put in vehicles such as minicabs, police cars and ambulances, although were not strictly mobile phones because they were not usually connected to the phone network. whilst the very first mobile phones were permanently installed in vehicles, later versions such as the transportables, also known as bag phones, could be carried, too, and could be used as either mobile or as portable two way radios.
The first mobile telephones were named first generation telephones, also referred to as 1g. The 1g era lasted from the late seventies through to the eighties. these devices were the very first real mobile telephones, although they were then named cellular mobile radiophones, and were based on analogue signals.

TalkTalk Broadband: A Quick History
|
As the name suggests, TalkTalk is hardly one of the many fairly similar broadband services that sprout up every so often. For one thing, it offers its broadband services free of charge, and that alone is enough normally to have most drooling around the mouth. But where did TalkTalk come from, and what is the catch to its remarkable offer? By taking a brief look at the history of this service, the answers seem to be clear.
Phone first, broadband later
What may not be commonly known about TalkTalk is that it is the consumer telephone business of The Carephone Warehouse group (the very same one that operates many high street stores that deal with mobile phones). By acquiring Opal Telecom in late-2002, TalkTalk gained the ability to operate its own landline network, and began building and strengthening what was to become its greatest forte.
From the beginning, TalkTalk aimed to provide cheaper, and thus more accessible, phone calls. This foundation was further strengthened when they began to allow unlimited free calls between all of their customers by mid-2004.

BT Broadband: The Safe and Reliable Performer
|
Seemingly, every other day or so there is a new broadband service that has somehow taken root during the night. Of course, with every new service come the predictable spate of new offers and the plethora of reasons given for why customers should flock to their service as opposed to pre-existing services. However, no matter how attractive some offers may be by comparison, BT always has had, and probably always will have, a great strength going for it: its safe and reliable pair of hands.
Weathering the hype with an umbrella of good service
Despite the slashed prices of broadband, BT broadband is still comparable to most of its competitors in terms of rates. With options that cater to both casual and heavy users of broadband internet, BT's packages come complete with everything that would be required to not only access broadband, but also have a home wireless network.
Installation of BT broadband is extremely simple, to say the least, and comprehensive instructions help guide even the less computer literate through the entire process.
